ABOUT THE ARTIST

Amy Potter, artist and philosopher, makes architectural ceramics in Liberty, Tennessee.

Art tiles, wheel thrown sinks, custom tableware and ceremonial vessels are colorfully rendered to inspire form and function in living and working spaces.

Originally from Oakland, California, Amy Schwartz (aka Potter) grew up in Williamsburg, Virginia. Empirically trained, she has worked with other middle Tennessee artists: Susan DeMay, Marilee Hall and Robert Harvey.

Amy's work can be purchased in Nashville at the Frist Center for Visual Arts. Work can be viewed and custom ordered through her website www.amypotter.com and at her Liberty studio.

Professional associations include Highland Rim TACA, Off the Beaten Path Studio Tour and The Watertown Artist Guild in Tennessee, and This Century Gallery in Williamsburg.

The Beauty of Everyday Things
The Earth births elements of life
From tumultuous fire and molten lava.
With reverence
An artist may create
with the resource of the Earth
Reflecting images of peace
And the passion in a human soul.

The following link is to a blog about the wood kiln that we have been firing since 2008. Rob Harvey built the kiln, Jodi Windus and I help fire it. The experience is amazing: technology and primitive firing techniques merge. The fuel, labor and craftsmanship are present in a way that no electric kiln could ever compare.
